(DAYTON, OHIO) … Ohio Loves Transit—that’s why state lawmakers invested $105 million in state transit funding. The Greater Dayton RTA and dozens of other public transit agencies across the state will be celebrating that investment and highlighting how transit is the strong economic engine of communities through Ohio Loves Transit week from Feb. 10-14.
Ohio Loves Transit week will include activities with transit customers all week, peaking on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14, with the third annual “Ohio Loves Transit Day” celebration. On that day, the RTA will ask riders to share why they support public transit, show a little love with giveaways, and offer free rides to anyone who downloads the Transit app and shows it to their driver. The Transit app is the RTA’s official real-time information and trip-planning mobile application.
Free rides will be offered to both fixed-route and paratransit customers who show their driver that they’ve downloaded Transit app on Feb. 14. In addition, paratransit riders who booked their trip in advance using the new RTA Connect Online can ride free that day—drivers will have a record for how the trip was booked. For riders who use monthly passes, from now until Feb. 14 if those riders flash their Transit app to an employee at the Wright Stop Plaza sales outlet they will get a free Day Pass when they buy a 31-Day Pass.
RTA staff will be handing out “Ohio Loves Transit” buttons and stickers on Feb. 14. Anyone wearing one of these items with the official logo is eligible for special discounts thanks to partnerships with area restaurants and shops in support of “Ohio Loves Transit Day.” The following discounts are being offered:
Ohio Loves Transit week aims to highlight how Ohio’s public transportation systems are striving to meet the daily mobility needs of the growing senior population, along with keeping up with the capital need to move workers, students, and those without access to their own vehicles. Public transportation in Ohio comes in many shapes and forms, from rail and streetcars, to buses, vans, and bikes.
Transit drive’s Ohio’s economy, with national statistics showing that every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic return. Whether it’s getting to area shopping centers, local airports, libraries, parks, bike trails, or countless other leisure time destinations—Ohio transit can get you there.
Ohio’s transit systems also provide a vital link to thousands of people with disabilities, by providing rides to work, job training programs, medical appointments, and adult day care facilities. With the “baby boomer” generation aging, the needs for these services has grown, and both urban and rural transit agencies alike are working to ensure all citizens have the access to the transportation services they need to remain an active part of their community.
