RTA brings Christmas cheer to Boys & Girls Club of Dayton with Stuff the Bus donations

(DAYTON, OHIO) ...The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) teamed up with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1385 (ATU) to make the holidays brighter for more than 100 children with its first “Stuff the Bus” event.

All together, RTA employees donated more than 80 coats, 16 bicycles and a countless number of toys and clothing items to the Boys and Girls Club of Dayton on Dec. 20. Initially, the RTA employees started to fill an RTA Connect bus. When it came time to deliver the donations, the team filled a 40-foot diesel bus in addition to the Connect bus.

“It was much more than we could have ever expected. We were just thrilled and honored” said Crystal Allen, the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton. “Because of (RTA’s) generosity, we got gifts to 110 kids that day.” She added that each child had multiple gifts when otherwise they might not have had any.

The drive was organized by the RTA operations team in conjunction with the ATU. RTA and the ATU selected the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton as the beneficiary, having “decided it was a good fit, seeing what they were doing for kids with their programs,” said Roland Caldwell, RTA’s chief transportation officer.
