(DAYTON, OHIO) … The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will hold public hearings to discuss agency plans to only accept cashless payments on-board all vehicles starting June 1, 2021. This is part of a larger payment system upgrade called Tapp Pay that began in June 2020.
Tapp Pay is available via smartphones and beginning in April 2021 via smartcards. Tapp Pay is an account value-based payment system, meaning customers will have value deducted from their account versus utilizing a pass. Through a network of over 200 retail outlets located within close proximity of RTA bus routes, customers will be able to convert their cash into Tapp Pay value. They may also use debit or credit cards to add funds to their account via the Transit app, payment kiosks, or website portal.
As a result of the changes to payments accepted on-board all RTA vehicles beginning June 1, 2021, the RTA will hold public meetings to discuss these changes on Monday, April 12, 2021. The purpose of the public workshops is to receive input into the planning process regarding proposed changes. A face covering will be required for all attendees, and social distancing measures will be in place during the meetings.
