RTA improves access to jobs, healthcare in upcoming service change

(DAYTON, OHIO) … The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is improving access to jobs and healthcare with upcoming service changes to Routes 9, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 22 beginning Sunday, June 19, 2022. The service changes are as follows:

• Route 9: Adding service to the Five Rivers Health Center – Edgemont Campus on Miami Chapel Road. By doing so, Route 9 will no longer serve Campbell and Stewart Streets.
• Route 11: Increasing the frequencies to 60 minutes from 91 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. Adding the Life Enrichment Center on select trips. Adding the Cardington loop to all northbound trips.
• Route 14: Increasing the frequencies to 50 minutes from 100 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. This change will improve access to grocery stores, such as Kroger and Dorothy Lane Market, as well as healthcare facilities including Miami Valley Hospital and Five Rivers Family Health Center. This route also serves the University of Dayton, a major employer in the Miami Valley.
• Route 16: Increasing the frequencies to 50 minutes from 100 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. This change will improve access to several healthcare facilities including Miami Valley Hospital and all of its campuses. This route also serves major employers such as Walmart, Kroger, and Costco.
• Route 17: Increasing the frequencies to 50 minutes from 100 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. This change will improve access to jobs in the Dayton Mall area, and improve access to healthcare with more frequent service to Southview Hospital.
• Route 18: Increasing the frequencies to 50 minutes from 100 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. This change will improve service to the Fuyao facility, which is a large employer in the Miami Valley, as well as service to the Urgent Care in Huber Heights.
• Route 19: Increasing the frequencies to 50 minutes from 100 minutes, Monday through Saturday, until 6:30 p.m. This change will improve access to jobs in the Dayton Mall area, and improve access to Kettering Medical Center.
• Route 22: Changing frequency to 36 minutes from 31 minutes in order to serve Westown on all trips, Monday through Friday, until 6:30 p.m. This route serves the Job Center and Elizabeth Place.

Routes 11, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19 will run at their current frequencies after 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

In addition, the board voted and approved eliminating Routes 3, 5, 23, 24, 64, 65, 66, X1A, X1B, and X5, which were temporarily eliminated from service in 2021. The changes were decided following feedback from customers and based on an analysis of ridership on routes, specific trips, and time periods experiencing low ridership. The agency will also implement a flat fee of $2 for new Tapp Pay smartcards beginning July 1. These reloadable cards are meant to be a one-time purchase. Tapp Pay cards can be obtained at any RTA transit center. If customers do not wish to use a Tapp Pay card, they can use Tapp Pay on their smartphone by downloading the Transit app in either the Google Play or App store.
